@CITES conducted a survey to learn how countries are managing their live animals & plants Majority of Parties seem to have zero plan of action on this. Huge conservation & animal welfare implications Majority of Parties didn’t even respond (124 Parties), & over half of those who DID respond (58 Parties) had no established plan of action for live specimens These are LIVE animals, that we have no mechanism to manage.. HUGE GAP IN #IWT MANAGEMENT Quick update on this agenda item: As expected, no consensus was reached! Further showing how complicated this issue is; how much more work is needed. Notable statement from #Israel: they are “unwilling to disengage” from this conversation. Best of luck to the working group! From ‘Coordinated UN support to combat illegal wildlife trafficking’ session, #CITESCoP18 50% of UN member states enhanced cooperation for the repatriations of live illegally traded animals. But many states were “not particularly interested” in this. @UNEnvironment @CITES
